How to Wash Plushies: Guide for Keeping Soft Toys Clean and Safe
Share
1. Check the Care Label
Examine the Tag: Before washing, always check the care label on the plushie for specific instructions.
Note: Some plushies may be machine washable, while others might require hand washing or dry cleaning.
2. Remove Loose Dirt and Debris
Brush Off: Use a soft brush or a lint roller to gently remove any loose dirt or debris from the surface of the plushie.
Spot Clean: For small stains, spot clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent before a full wash.
3. Choose the Washing Method
Machine Washing: If the care label allows machine washing, place the plushie in a mesh laundry bag to protect it.
Hand Washing: For more delicate plushies, fill a basin with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent.
4. Wash the Plushie
Machine: Set your washing machine to a gentle cycle with cold water. Use a mild detergent and avoid using bleach.
Hand: Gently agitate the water and detergent with your hands, then carefully wash the plushie. Avoid wringing or twisting.
5. Rinse Thoroughly
Machine: Run an additional rinse cycle to ensure all detergent is removed.
Hand: Rinse the plushie under cool, clean water until all soap is gone.
6. Dry the Plushie
Air Dry: Gently squeeze out excess water without wringing. Reshape the plushie and lay it flat on a clean towel to air dry. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources.
Machine Drying: If the care label allows, you can use a low heat setting in the dryer, but air drying is generally preferred.
7. Fluff and Restore Shape
Fluff: Once dry, gently fluff the plushie by hand to restore its original shape and softness.
Brush: Use a soft brush to smooth out the fur or fabric if needed.
8. Inspect and Repair
Check for Damage: Inspect the plushie for any damage or loose parts. Repair any minor issues before giving it back to your child.
